DAY 2 Tiananmen Square - Forbidden City - Mutianyu Great Wall
After breakfast today, explore Beijing with your guide, who will pick you up from your hotel. Visit the largest city square in the world—Tiananmen Square. Cross the road to the magnificent Forbidden City, a cultural and historical landmark of China that has been the residence of Chinese royalty for five centuries. Afterwards, you will be taken to Mutianyu Great Wall, a less-visited section of this iconic landmark with a history of 1,400 years, located about 70 kilometers from Beijing. Enjoy a pleasant and comfortable round-trip cable car ride and admire the picturesque scenery. Walk along the Great Wall, appreciating the watchtowers from the Ming Dynasty and the stunning views.
The Forbidden City is a well-preserved and expansive ancient wooden architecture complex, not only in China but also in the world. These magnificent buildings can be divided into two main parts: the "Outer Court" and the "Inner Court." The Meridian Gate serves as the boundary, with the Outer Court located to the south, where the emperor handled state affairs; and the Inner Court to the north, where the imperial harem lived and the emperor's family life took place. Walking past the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the Palace of Heavenly Purity, and the Palace of Earthly Tranquility, and enjoying the flowers and plants in the emperor's garden, it feels like stepping into a historical drama.
The Mutianyu Great Wall is located in Huairou District, Beijing. It connects to the Juyongguan Great Wall in the west and the Gubeikou in the east. Since ancient times, it has served as a military stronghold guarding Beijing, known as the "Perilous Ridge Stronghold." The architectural style of the Mutianyu Great Wall is unique, with densely packed watchtowers, and the main fortress with three watchtowers standing together is particularly rare among the Great Wall.
